Description
Light micrograph of Paramecium bursaria. This one-celled protozoa inhabits water and soil using its cilia for motion. Small green cells of Chlorella, a green alga living symbiotically within the paramecium, can be seen. Chlorella photosynthesize and provide energy, carbon, nitrogen and oxygen to the protozoa. In return the alga obtains carbon dioxide, ammonia, salts and shelter. Differential interference contrast technique. LM 160x at 35mm.
