Description
Dromedary camel (Camelus bactrianus). This camel has been extensively used by desert-living people as a beast of burden, and only domesticated or feral dromedaries exist. The feral camels range throughout the desert regions of northern Africa, Arabia and the Middle East. They are extremely hardy animals, and can go without water and food for several days due to their ability to store fat in a hump on their back. They can also withstand the extremes of temperature encountered in the desert, and are able to carry heavy loads.
